To Be Compassionate? To Be A Steward? Our Way of Life ? What we are, what we have and what we desire/want are free gifts or loans ... take or think of our resources, life, time, talents, abilities, money, stocks, real estate, food, windfalls & possessions. These are free gifts or loans we need to cultivate with reason & share with justice; they are not to be hoarded, wasted or squandered. We need to let the material & immaterial possessions in our wallets, closets, drawers, attics, basements, homes, garages & cupboards etc. circulate freely; come and go as the needs of our neighbors demand !! It is not true that letting them go means they cannot be replaced. Nope, it makes sense to re-cycle: re-cyclers always have more in return !! Is it better to hold onto a gift with a tight clench fist or to relax our grasp to form a receiving cup !! To give is to volunteer away our time, our ability, our money, our action or our abundance to help another, the destitute, the needy. Corporal & Spiritual Works of Mercy: Many hunger for love, compassion and sympathy... and works of mercy. These are not very common in our sometimes cold, cruel, , insensitive and inhospitable world. Greed, self proclamation and insensitivity often mask the flow of compassion to the needy, sick, poor, and others facing crime, disaster or other scourges. Compassion, actionable sympathy or stewardship will lift the spirits of the afflicted through caring & sharing. But we have to widen our compassionate, stewardship or sympathetic circle to include foreigners & the familiar.
